Why is an Infrared Inspection important ? Because unlike a digital camera that uses light to create a picture, Infrared uses heat to create a picture. In other words the infrared camera sees what our eyes can not.

This infrared image is showing air leaking past the molding around a door leading to the garage (brighter is warmer, darker is colder). This was shot on a 55 degree day. When we decided to offer infrared camera inspections we did our homework, and choose a high end, high sensitivity camera that allows us to analyze pictures like this with such a small temperature difference. Most infrared cameras used for energy auditing would not even pick this up

People call me because they are frustrated by leaky windows, and are all set to pay thousands of dollars to remedy the problem. Often the problem is not the windows - it is air movement around the windows that they are sensing. If you are even somewhat handy this is a good DIY project that will save you thousands of dollars, dollars better spent on other areas of the home.
